The governor's race headlines a statewide ballot that includes every constitutional office, the Legislature, judges and ballot questions — in the state that counts slow and wears it proudly.

Nevada voters close out the 2026 election Tuesday with a ballot that reaches from the governor's office to the mining taxes of state constitutional law — and a counting process the whole country has learned to watch.

The governor's race leads the statewide slate: Nevada elects its chief executive every four years in the midterm cycle, and the contest anchors a full card of constitutional offices — lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, treasurer and controller — plus U.S. House races, half the state Senate, the full Assembly, state Supreme Court seats and local offices and questions down to county commissions and school boards.

Nevada's electorate is famously hard to poll and slow to finish. The state's universal mail-ballot system — every active registered voter receives a ballot — means a large share of votes arrive by mail, postmarked by Election Day and countable through Nov. 7, with a curing process for signature issues running after that. County canvasses and the state Supreme Court's canvass later in November make results official.

That machinery produces Nevada's election-week signature: early results built from early in-person votes and the first mail, followed by days of updates as later mail arrives. State and county officials repeat the same message every cycle — the count is slow because it is thorough, and it is the system Nevada law prescribes.

Henderson voters will also decide the city's mayoral race amid the statewide crush, a reminder that Nevada's second-largest city conducts its most important local business inside the state's biggest election.

Polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday, with voters in line guaranteed their ballot. Then Nevada does what Nevada does: counts carefully, in public, for as long as it takes.
